When the Podcast Becomes a Reverse Conversation
Along the way, many people ask me about the process of writing and publishing a book. In this episode of The Human Founder, and in honor of the release of my book - The Human Founder - How to Build a Startup and Stay Alive - I chose to sit on the other side of the microphone and surrender to the mind and heart of the one and only - Lior Frankel – an entrepreneur, writer, lecturer, friend and colleague – who took the reins, and together we conducted an open and deep conversation about the book publishing process, the significant decisions made along the way, and the impact of the creative process on our personal and professional lives. You are invited to dive into an episode full of emotion, honesty, and many practical tools that will guide you on your own path.
Writing as an Internal Choice
One of the first questions that came up in the conversation, and which my editor repeatedly asked me, was: "Why are you writing a book"? Lior and I agreed that writing is much more than bringing ideas to light. Writing a book is a deep choice that comes from a personal place – a place that connects values, experiences, and the legacy we want to leave in the world. We talked about writing's ability to be a healing tool that allows inner reflection and a deep personal process. For me, it was a journey of personal and professional precision, of packaging knowledge and value, and of inner connection to my personal story. We talked about the difference between choices and decisions, about how the choice to write develops, and why it's so important to know the "why" that drives us - both as entrepreneurs and throughout the creative and extremely difficult journey of writing a book.
Challenges Along the Way – Discipline and Patience
Writing a book is a long and complex process. We talked about the doubts that accompany us, about moments of frustration, and about the need for high self-discipline to continue and make progress. Lior shared his experiences from writing five books, including two bestsellers, and how he learned to deal with internal pressures and the need to let go – even when things are not perfect. Writing the book took me almost four years, and the personal prices were substantial. I shared with Lior about coping with the balance between the duration of writing and writing content versus family. There were moments when I had to choose between spending time with my children and dedicating hours upon hours to the book - and how this too is also a choice I stand behind. Throughout the entire journey, I shared the process with them, and I hope that my hard work will serve as inspiration and a source of pride for them. The book writing process is full of frustrations. There were so many moments when the thought of giving up crept into my mind - but it never stayed for more than 2 minutes. Self-discipline, dedication, patience, perseverance, and releasing control are significant lessons in the book writing process.
The Decision of Self-Publishing vs. Traditional Publishing
One of the central topics that came up in the conversation was the difference between self-publishing and approaching a traditional publishing house. We talked about the considerations that lead to the decision, about the advantages and disadvantages of each option, and about how each reflects our personality and personal choices. My choice to go with a traditional publisher reflected the desire to surround myself with excellent professionals who would know how to fine-tune my message and maintain the values important to me. We talked about striving for excellence, about understanding that every choice comes with a certain price, and about the importance of making a decision without regret.
Courage to Accept Criticism and Bring Your Work to Light
Writing a book requires courage and openness to receiving criticism. We talked about how to listen to external opinions, even when it's not always easy to hear them, and to use them as a tool for improvement and growth. It's a constructive process that requires self-confidence, internal belief, and the ability to remain connected to my inner essence. I shared the feeling that the more criticism I received, the more my message was sharpened and the book improved. Publishing a book, especially a personal-professional management book, is also bringing its author into the light. This is also a deep process that requires courage, connection, and maturity.
Imagining the Book Coming To Life
At the end of the conversation, I shared how I imagine the moment after the book will be released. We talked about the importance of proportions – the book is an important and exciting stage, the peak of my degrees in the university of life, but it is certainly not everything. For me, the book's success is a nice addition, but the most important thing is to continue living my daily life, as it is, connected to the values and things I love.
This episode is not just about writing, but about life itself – about how to turn dreams into reality, about how to deal with creative challenges, and about how to stay connected to what is truly important. I invite you to listen and join my writing journey – a journey that probably started with my birth, but was packaged into the writing process in the last 4 years and into the book I am proud of, and hope you will receive a lot of value from.
